There are events that happen in time. And then there are those that happen beyond time. The 29¾ edition of e-privacy is one of these. A number that doesn’t exist, some might say. But it certainly does, if you know where to look: between the folds of collective history, in the digital corridors we have walked together, in the knowing glances of those who have always made privacy a personal and political matter.
Even on this extraordinary occasion, ISGroup was there. As a partner, as a sponsor, but above all as a living part of a community that resists, remembers, and looks ahead.
The 2021 edition was not like the others. It wasn’t meant to be. After years marked by physical distance and forced hyper-connectivity, e-privacy 29¾ was a return to the human roots of the conference: an edition designed not to convince, but to share. Not to demonstrate, but to remember.
An edition for “the e-privacy crowd,” but also for those who had never been there before. An invitation to board the Hogwarts Express of digital culture, crossing the invisible barrier of cynicism and resignation. Because if privacy seems like a rearguard battle today, it is only because we have stopped talking about it with our hearts.
We at ISGroup, on the other hand, continue to do so. Because we believe that security is never just a technical matter, but also an act of care. Because we know that every exploit tells us something about ourselves. And because we have always worked for a cyberspace where ethics is not an optional variable, but the operating system.
During the two days in October, we listened to stories of change, unexpected confessions, and anecdotes to cherish. We reunited with familiar voices like Marco Calamari, Emmanuele Somma, Carlo Gubitosa, and many others, who shared not presentations, but pieces of their lives.
We were moved by Efrem Zugnaz’s “The Last Pandas,” we smiled with Valentina Longo and her intersections between jurists and good wine, and we reflected with Giovanni Battista Gallus on the – increasingly less dystopian – prophecy of Winston Smith.
In that context, ISGroup wanted to be there not to show off, but to listen. Because our mission does not end with defense against cyber risks, but extends to the care of digital rights, to supporting ideas that deserve a future, and to embracing a community that recognizes itself even without badges.
Sponsoring e-privacy 29¾ was not just a symbolic gesture. It was an act of continuity, a bridge between what we have been and what we want to be. A way to say, once again, that privacy is not a luxury for the few, but a right for everyone.
And those who participated know it: that magic, somewhere, truly exists.
